Bangalore International Airport

Bengaluru International Airport replaced the old HAL Bangalore International Airport and it is the service point for the city Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. The total area of this airport is 4,050 acres. The airport is located in Devanhalli, which is 40km away from the city. This airport started its operations on the night of 23 May 2008, just before midnight whereas it begins its construction in July 2005. It is also heard that as there was a delay in the beginning of construction in the same for problems of air traffic control (ATC) the date of inauguration is postponed from March 30, 2008 to 23 May 2008. Everyday 70 international and domestic flight lands and flies from this airport. This airport is divided into two terminals.
Terminal 1 contains the Departure lounge for the Domestic Flights and Terminal 2 is for Arrival of Domestic Flights. International Terminal handles Departure and Arrival of International flights. The airport is a major center in South Zone for traveling and for the feeder routes.

It is decided that the terminals and runways will be expanded. It is true that including business centers, tax-free shop, entertainment centers, malls and office space will bring a generous commercial development in the airport.

With a total floor area of 71,000 square meters the terminal building can accommodate 2,733 passengers. The design of the terminal building is suitable for 24 hours industry operations and caters in all weather condition. The two-level building of the passenger terminal is fully air-conditioned and can accommodate international and domestic operations. Whereas the arrival and departure area is divided in a simple system but in the basement there are some retail storage, rest areas and other services. Level 1 and 2 are gradually for check-in facilities and baggage reclaim, and for the domestic and international departure lounges, and the majority of the retail outlets. It can be said that the terminal design and its facilities will meet IATA standards

In Bengalore airport Airbus A380 cannot run whereas 12 million people in a year and 30 aircraft can move in this airport in an hour. A report says that in May 2008 the aircraft movement was estimated 440. With one runway it is planned that a second runway would be built to meet the annual traffic of 18 million passengers per year. With the newly oriented runway a five star hotel with 321 rooms and opposite to the main building has also been proposed for the airport complex. The project is still under construction and the hotel will be operated by some of India’s famous groups such as Oberoi Hotels and Larsen & Toubro under Trident Hilton brand. Architects RSP India and P Associates of Bangkok have designed the hotel.

By selling the best of international liquor, tobacco, luxury and premium perfumes, cosmetics, souvenirs, gifts, arts and crafts from local artisans, exclusive electronics outlets, books, music, local and international fashion, apparel, jewelry and accessories the international departure section of Bengalore airport is designed to host one of the largest duty free outlets in India.
