Easter is one of the most important Christian festival celebrated in almost all Christian countries. According to Bible this was the day when Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead. It is believed that on third day of clarification Jesus came out from the dead and this day is celebrated by the followers of Jesus Christ as Easter, which is two days after Good Friday and three days after Mandy Monday. The time of His calcification and resurrection is generally assumed to be around 26 to 36 A.D.
Theological Significance
The New Testament teaches that one of the basic foundations of the Christian religion is the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. It shows the world that Jesus was really the son of Godard the God will judge the world in righteousness. The God has given the Christians a new hope of life through the resurrection of Jesus. In the Old testament however easter is linked to Passover and Exodus from Egypt. According to the belief Jesus gave the Passover meal a great significance as he prepared his disciples for his death during the Last Supper. He symbolized the loaf of bread as his body which will very soon be sacrificed and the cup of wine as his blood which is soon to be shed away.
Religious observance
The traditional observation of Easter as done by specially the Roman Catholics starts on the night of Easter eve, that is ,the holy Saturday night which precedes the Easter. It begins in total darkness of the night with lighting the Paschal Candle and recitation of Eater Proclamation. After this a number of readings of Old Testament are done which tells stories of creation and the sacrifice of Jesus. After this songs of Gloria, Alleluia and proclamation from the Gospel of resurrection is sung. Anciently the perfect time for converts to receive Baptism was considered to be Easter and this is still followed roman Catholics even nowadays. Usually this act is followed by sprinkling of the Holy water. In polish culture the resurrection procession is held and people gather in masses at daybreak when the church bells ring out loud to commemorate resurrection , that is Jesus rising from the dead. Eastern catholics also have similar type of customs and lay equal importance to their calendar.
