History of Gujarat

gujarat historyGujarat gets its label from “Gujjar Rashtra”, the ground of the Gujjars, a migrant tribe who arrived to India in the wake of the assaulting Huns in the 5th century. The anecdote of Gujarat dates back to 2000 BC. It is also affirmed that Lord Krishna left Mathura to concede on the west border of Saurashtra at Dwarka.

The region of Gujarat is one of the above-industrialized states in India. Gujarat acquired its identity from the tribe known as ‘Gujjars’, which occupied the region in the 1st century A.D

The early settlers in the region of Gujarat were Gujjars who came to pass to be an ethnic class of India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. But their originis last uncertain; the breed appeared in northern India and in Saurashtra about the era of the Huna invasion. The identity of the tribe was ‘sanskritized’ to ‘Gurjara’ who developed the main religions of Hinduism, Islam, Sikkism also Christianity.

The brilliant and eventful anecdote of Gujarat is an interesting and desirable one. Excavations at diversified sites in Gujarat materialize signs of civilization in the area dating back to as early as 3000 to 1500 B.C. Gujarat draws the region that contained the area of the Indus valley civilization and Harappan sites. The account of Gujarat mentions that around 50 Harappan sites were eradicated in Gujarat.

Muhammad of Ghazni assaulted Somnath in Gujarat commanding to the defeat of the Solankis. The accomplishment of Ala-ud-din Khilji king of Delhi in 1288 also affected the conditions in Gujarat. The Sultans of Delhi clutched their charge over Gujarat from 1298-1392AD. Ahmad Shah I, the early independent Muslim commander of Gujarat made Ahmedabad in 1411. Following the Mughals controlled for about 2 centuries while the Marathas ceased their rule in the middle 18th century. It was throughout the 18th century that Gujarat was separated between count of chiefs. From 1803-1827 the British set up their command. The British East India activities original head quarters in India were at Surat. It was eventually moved to Bombay. Lastly in May 1,1960, the state of Gujarat was created from the north and west portions of Bombay state, the vestige being renamed the state of Maharashtra.
