Samjhauta Express, an attempt for Peace
If you stay in India or Pakistan then you might be aware about the train called “Samjhauta Express”. This train was started as an attempt to forge relationship between India and Pakistan. It joins India to Pakistan. This is the second train which connects India and Pakistan. Other train which joins Pakistan and India is Thar Express. People also call Samjhauta Express by the name of Friendship Express. Passengers can take this train for travel on Tuesdays and Fridays. This train starts its journey from Delhi. From Delhi, it heads off to Wagah station and Lahore, which is located in Pakistan.
Since the time this train has been introduced, a number of changes have been made in its schedule and track. Before 1994, this train offered daily services to the passengers. However, in 1994, this train was scheduled to give service only for 2 days in a week. Lahore is the final destination to which this train takes the passengers. The migration procedure is carried on at the Wagah station in Pakistan and Attari in India. If someone wishes to go to Pakistan from this train then he needs to get his tickets reserved at least 15 days before the date of his departure.
The passengers who want to get tickets for this train gets 2 tickets for trip-one up to Attari in India and then to other places of Pakistan which includes Lahore. In the cities of Moradabad, Kanpur, Saharanpur, Amritsar and Allahabad; there are specific counters from where the tickets for this train can be purchased. In the year of 2007, this train was attacked by terrorists. In this terrorist attack, around 68 people died. The attack took place at the Diwana station.
This train has gone through a lot of tough times. Whatever, the extremists of any religion think about this train, it is loved by the masses of both India and Pakistan. A large number of people find this train a great way to make peace between the two countries. People from both the countries can meet their loved ones through this train.
