Jammu and Kashmir WeatherThe weather of Jammu and Kashmir is greatly changeable. All around the state, the climate tends to change along with different geographical situations. Close to the middle mountains, the winter season is usually cold and lasts for a long period. The monsoons cause heavy downpour of rain in this part of the district. However, in higher mountain areas around the valley, there is frequent snowfall. Summer in Jammu and Kashmir is not blazingly hot and lasts for a shorter period compared to the long winter. Generally, the climate in this state can be chilly or nice and pleasant through the year.

In Kashmir’s valley, the winter is quite cold. It starts from November and ends on mid-March. Additionally, the winter season is characterized by strong winds, much snowfall, and some rainfall. In late March, the weather starts to get warmer and this warm weather condition lasts until July. However, there are still occasional rainfalls which lead to landslides or erosions at times.

The atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir is moist with mist and fog over the valley since this state is surrounded with waterways and lakes.

The climate of Jammu and Kashmir is different, if not completely opposite, to the climatic conditions of the rest of India. Even though in summers the temperature rises incessantly, in winters the people have to wait until the snow melts for the continuation of daily activities. Although starting from the month of October, Jammu can be considered as an agreeable and interesting tourist spot. But for tourists searching for the best time of the year to visit this place, May and September are recommended months to witness the beauty of Kashmir valleys as well as experience the wonder of Ladakh region.

● Summer Season- May 15-July 15

● Rainy Season- July 15-September 15

● Autumn Season – September 15-November 15

● Winter Season- November 15 -January 15

● Chilly and Cold- January 15- March 15

● Starting from Dec. 24 until March 8, the temperature tends to go down below 0 degrees Celsius, thus it’s very cold. There are also strong winds and snowfall in winter season characterized by cloudy weather or black skies
